Major Update: Semi-Automatic Classification Plugin v. 4.2.0

This post is about a major update for the Semi-Automatic Classification Plugin for QGIS, version 4.2.0.

Following the changelog:

-added tab for download of Landsat images

It is quite fresh the news that Landsat 8 data are freely available through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) as described here: "All Landsat 8 scenes from 2015 are available on AWS along with a selection of cloud-free scenes from 2013 and 2014. New Landsat 8 scenes are made available on AWS within hours of production".
The advantage of this service is that it is possible to download single bands and search through the Landsat database.

In SCP v. 4.2.0 I have added the possibility to search and download Landsat 8 data using AWS.
Several search filters are available: Latitude and Longitude coordinates, date, maximum cloud cover, and Landsat Image ID (e.g. LC81390452014295LGN00).

It is possible to display an image preview in QGIS.
Example of Landsat preview displayed over OpenStreetMap

It is possible to download multiple images (i.e. all the images in the image list table) and select which bands to download for each image. Directories with the same name as the images are created inside the output directory; the images and metadata MTL file are automatically downloaded inside the corresponding directory.

Moreover, it is possible to perform automatically the band conversion to reflectance, also with the DOS1 correction (according to the settings in tab Pre processing > Landsat), after the image download. Converted images are saved in a new directory with the suffix "_converted".

Please, notice that the first time performing an image search, the Landsat 8 database (about 4 MB) is downloaded automatically. One should click "Update database" periodically, in order to update the database of new images available for download.

Following, a brief video that shows this tool.

Please, remember that a Facebook group and a Google+ Community are available for sharing information and asking for help about the Semi-Automatic Classification Plugin.
